Founded by Glasgow based music promoter Paul Downie (Pelmet Nites, Save BBC Introducing campaign) and musician/artist manager Vicki Cole (Randolph’s Leap), Comets & Cartwheels is an exciting new Scottish record label project, focusing around the digital and physical release of singles, EPs and albums primarily within the indie/folk vein (and with a view to mirroring some of the aesthetics and success of such admired labels as Drag City, Bella Union, Olive Grove Records, Sub Pop and Fence Records).

Preparations for our initial digital single release – Quickbeam’s Seven Hundred Birds – on April 9th 2012, included a trip to Cumbria at the beginning of 2012 to work with BAFTA Short Film award nominee Mat Sheldon (Crush Film) and Director of Photography Iain Struthers on a stunning promo video for the song. In line with this release we ran PR through London based online press magician Paul McCallum of A Badge of Friendship and successfully sold out a launch gig to two hundred people aboard Glasgow’s Tall Ship, where we also exhibited an art installations in keeping with the theme of the song.

Having started 2013 by becoming official partners with Brewdog, we we are excited to announce two new members of the Comets & Cartwheels family with Fake Major and Kitty the Lion joining the roster. With debut albums from both Quickbeam and Kitty the Lion to be released this year, and Fake Major’s debut EP, we are all hoping 2013 will be The Year of the Comet.
